Adding a Crop and Details

Crop Details can be worthwhile adding if you are looking for more from VeggieCropper.

Crop details can be edited in two ways:

  1. On every crop-specific page, you can click the more menu beside the crop name and then select 'Details'
  2. From the crops page, you can click on the details showing in on the right of the crop list of a crop to edit

None of these details are needed to complete a basic planting schedule or for mapping your crops to make a crop plan.

With more details, VeggieCropper can start to:

  • Automatically calculate seed counts for your seed order as well as the number of greenhouse and pot up flats
  • Add key information to planting tasks like: Row/seed spacing for this crop & Seed plate details
  • Calculate greenhouse seeding and pot-up dates for each planting

Crop details fields:

Direct Seeded Crops

'Rows / bed'' The number of rows per bed for this crop

Seeds / row ft.'  Average number of seeds per row feet. This is used to calculate seed orders.

'Seeder details' (optional) - These are specific details that will appear right in the row with the task.  For example, you could enter a specific seeder plate. For more than 30 characters you can make a reference here to check the Crop Note.

'Plant: Min/100 bed ft' (optional) - If you want to track times for seeding tasks you need to have times enabled for your account. Seeding times are valuable and can be updated in the field. Times allow for minute totals for any task or combination of tasks making for a really helpful planning tool to anticipate labour needs on a week-by-week or daily basis.

Transplanted Crops

'Rows/bed' - Rows per bed.

'In-row spacing (in.)' - The space in-row distance between each transplant in inches.

'Weeks before TP' - Weeks before transplant is the total number of weeks the crop will be in the greenhouse and sets the seeding date.

'Seeds/cell' - The number of seeds per cell in your transplant flat

'Cells / flat' - The number of cells in your transplant flat (ex. 72, 128, etc.)

'TP SF (%)' - Transplant Seed Safety Factor.  A value of 10 here would calculate and add an additional 10% of transplants

'TP flat round-up' -  Transplant flat round-up controls how part flats are handled. By default is set to 'No Decimal' and automatically rounds 4.1 to 5. You can set the roundup to one or two decimal places in the 'TP flat round-up' dropdown.

'Seed: min/flat' (optional) - If you want to track times for transplanting tasks you need to have times enabled for your account.  Seeding times allow for minute totals for any task or combination of tasks making for a really helpful daily planning tool.

Pot Up Crops

'Weeks to PU' - Weeks to pot up.  How many weeks after transplant seeding do you want to pot up? Better to err on the earlier side and delay if needed. 'Weeks to PU' does not change the seeding date for the crop.

'PU cells/flat' - The number of cells in your pot up flat or could also be the number of pots per flat.

'PU SF (%)' (optional) - Pot Up Safety Factor. A value of 10 here would calculate and add an additional 10% of pot ups. # of pot ups must be less than the number of transplants or you will see a warning

'PU flat round-up' (optional) - Pot Up flat round-up controls how part flats are handled. By default is set to 'No Decimal' and automatically rounds 4.1 to 5. You can set the roundup to one or two decimal places in the 'PU flat round-up' dropdown

'PU: min/flat' (optional) - Pot Up minutes per flat.  If you want to track times for potting up tasks you need to have times enabled for your account.
